Enjoy the beautiful view of the Wadden Sea from Terschelling. But what actually lives beneath the water’s surface? Discover the secret with the educational fishing trawler TS-3 Viking.

The TS3-Viking entered service in mid-June 2017; a former Rijkswaterstaat vessel equipped with a new ‘green’ main engine, a spacious and well-organized deck, aft and upper decks, toilets, a galley, and a cozy messroom. An ideal ship, also available for booking by larger groups for school trips, company outings, family reunions, etc.

The crew explains exactly what species it is, how big they can get, and just how long that takes. Seen everything? QUICK…. everything quickly back into the Wadden Sea and it lives on happily.

Suddenly, little crabs are swarming right in front of you. Males and females (can you tell the difference?). And look: starfish, mussels, jellyfish, and more. Also baby-sized flatfish. You can touch them briefly… provided you are very careful.

Every 6 hours, you might say. That’s right. But pay attention: you can hear it on board too! As soon as the oystercatchers on the sandbanks start ‘chirping’, you know: Ahhh… the tide is in, because their food comes with the tide.

Where to board?

You can board in the small harbor of “West” (*). The classic ex-buoy tender TS-3 Viking accommodates 93 people, making it suitable for school trips, company outings, family celebrations, and crossings between Harlingen and Terschelling. We have a “water table” on board. There is a toilet. The ship is certified and therefore safe.
